Maja International was held annually from 1966 to 1989.  For the first 10 years these were staged at the Palacio de la Lonja in Zaragoza, Spain.  Madrid was the headquarters of the organizer, the Goya International, which ran the pageants in cooperation with the officials of Zaragoza City Provincial Delegation for Tourism.  Later the pageants were held in different locations in Latin America and Spain.  The pageant was discontinued after 1991, and in 1995 it was revived under name of Maja del Mundo.  However, it was held just that once.  Another pageant, Miss Maja World, was begun in Colombia in 2004.
