Miss Argentina arrived late because she won her national pageant without her
father knowing. Her aunt persuaded him to let her go to Long Beach by
being her chaperone. |

Miss Iceland got a sunburn from the 2 1/2-hour parade. Miss Germany
applied a soothing lotion.

Miss Israel (left) at first refused to pose with Miss Germany because she
and her mother were the only ones in their family to survive the Nazi
occupation of Poland. Later, she relented and agreed to pose with Miss
Germany. |
