Miss Europe
Shortly after World War II, the
chairman of the French Committee of Elegance, Roger Zeiler, teamed with
Claude Berr to set up a beauty contest open to all European countries. They
established the Comite International Pour L'election de Miss Europe
(International Committee for the election of Miss Europe) - Mondial Events
Organisation.
The first Miss Europe contest was in 1948 in Paris, and thereafter were held
in locations throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. It was not
held in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1998, 2000 & 2004.
Claude Berr passed away in 1981, and in 2003 Roger Zeiler sold the license
to Endemol, one of the biggest French production houses. |
