Miss World 1991
- an amalgam of news reports -

Miss Venezuela Ninibeth Beatriz Leal Jimenez, a 20-year-old industrial engineering student, was crowned Miss World 1991 in Atlanta.

Jimenez beat out 78 other contestants from around the world to claim the title.

“I thought I would be among the finalists, but winning is like a dream come true,” said Jimenez, who is from Maracaibo.  “I feel very privileged to be Miss World and I wish everyone around the world peace and goodwill.”

First runner-up was Miss Australia, Leanne Buckle, 21; second runner-up was Miss South Africa, Diane Tilden-Davis, 22.  The other finalists were Miss Jamaica Sandra Foster, 21, and Miss Namibia Michelle McLean, 19.

The hometowns of the other winning contestants were not available.

Jimenez, who plays guitar and listed music and volleyball as among her interests, will receive about $100,000 for her year’s reign, during which she will travel internationally to raise funds for charity as the new Miss World, pageant officials said.

The outgoing Miss World is Gina Marie Tolleson of Spartanburg, S.C.

The contestants, ages 17 to 24, were judged on evening gown and swimsuit competitions, as well as personality and stage presence.
